Many of the 24 races boasted full 58-car grids and the busy race schedule included six decades of Formula One history, a feast of classic touring cars plus just about every sportscar from the legendary Jaguar C- and D-types of the Fifties to the awesome Group C Le Mans prototypes of the Eighties. Despite the huge grids and fiercely fought competition, the packed programme ran to schedule with just one short safety car period in two days of epic racing. 2013: RREC Rockingham Castle
Premier event for Royce and Bentley enthusiasts 15th/16th June......
The castle and grounds also being open for those not inclined towards the ultimate in automotive opulence.
Saturday hosted a H&H auction of automobilia followed by a card of 60 odd runners We shall have to look on the website to determine what actually past the post.
Sunday being the big day with something like 1000 cars parked it a field, ranging from the dawn of motoring through every epoque of Royce and Bentley through to the present day. The traders village having representation from new vehicle dealers, Jack Barcley and Stratstones, through several 'pre owner' agents such as The Real Car Company (a Welsh organisation who always have some exciting and interesting 'restoration' stock and non too agrecious prices), and P& A Wood... And then the specialist restorers, the specialist breakers and finally the flim flam stuff like posters, hats and chamios. A very good jass band played outside the beer tent, and a number of of the traders offering more than cards and fliers in the form of 'a glass of something sir? Or perhaps you would care to help yourself to canepes?' Even the porta-loos were of a different class to most other outdoor events!
All in all a great day to observe and contrast so many coachbuilders skills and styles, and witness the silent running of so many engines....Brilliant.
