ERIC EXPERIENCE

The Angouleme Classic

Friends. I'd like to direct you to my photo's of the 2010 running of Le Remparts de Angouleme - historic (principally pre war) racing in the heart of the city. Google it. A really good season closer, that I intend to go to again, so by way of invitation to you - should you care to camp in my back garden which is just 40km to the north.....The weekend starts on Fri pm/evening with a Concourse d'etat (condition), with many dressed in harmony with their cars, Saturday is the Scenic Rally in the Charente region (Cognac is only 30km east, there are plenty of pretty villages, and pleasant roads all around) culminating in all the cars collecting in one of the town squares at circa 16:00, followed by a participants buffet/evening in the market hall. Sunday is Race day with cars on the 1 mile street circuit from 08:30 to gone 18:00 with minimal let up the whole time. With such a short circuit and only a couple of minutes between grids there were cars passing by wherever you were round the track. How much does all this cost??? Not so much actually, From Dartford Crossing to my place is 530 miles, Angouleme is circa 550 miles by non payage routes. It takes 8 to 9 hours to drive down from Calais - or essentially a whole days drive from wherever you are in Essex. I tend to go via Dover  but other options are possible, but the return crossing was only £57. Once there a full access (grandstands and pits/paddock) for the weekend is just €25. The 'rally' seems more pricey at €200-300 depending on options but does include meals for 2 people at lunch and evening + entertainment... but we did hear of several people being directed by the organisers to just tag on the back of the crocodile as all places were taken! No need to commit or book, have a look at the pictures (I'm working on removing the fence's for next year) and just let me know if you fancy a trip out next Sept! (As usual hundreds of shots, but only of Sundays practice and racing, for those interested I dumped Saturdays shots onto the pc in France and cannot retrieve them at the moment...)
